Summer Harvest

Our little garden had a good year!  This is only a small taste of the tomatoes we got from it.  I canned 60 pints of tomato sauce as well as some salsa.  The zucchini did so well I had to kill a couple of the plants because we has zucchini coming out our ears!  Now I have a freezer full of shredded zucchini.  The beans didn't do as well as I wanted so I think I'll plant more next year.

We also went to local orchards and picked 4 bushels of apples.  I canned 54 quarts of applesauce as well as some applebutter.

We picked some blueberries and raspberries in July.

We picked quite a few strawberries in June too.  

I'm looking forward to planning next years garden! To bad I have to wait so long to do it!

Another T shirt makeover

I have had this shirt hanging in my closet for forever.  I don't really like it (for me) but hadn't gotten rid of it yet.  Today I got inspired and cut it up to make a dress for baby girl.  It's a little shorter than I wanted but it's stretchy enough that next summer she can still wear it with some little shorts.

 Now that we put up the chicken wire the poor beans have a fighting chance against the bunnies.

Just picked this morning!  I also have a bunch of basil in the dehydrator right now.  It smells so good in here!

T-shirt refashion

Baby girl got this t-shirt as a gift from someone recently.  (It's wet because she spilled water on it)  Hubby got her dressed this morning and this is what he picked.  Cute but not very girly.  I got to looking around on pinterest and got inspired so I let her run around shirtless for a while and got to work.  It only took about 10 minutes to finish!

 It's a little hard to get a good picture of it since she doesn't hold a pose very well yet.  I cut the sleeves and neck off, made a casing along the top and ran some ribbon through the casing.  Now it's a little more girly and a little more summery!

Garden update

We got off to a rough start but I think things are on the right track now.  At the end of May we went on vacation for 2 weeks and we came back to most of the plants destroyed by bunnies!  Mostly the beans and peas but they got into other stuff too.  Now that the dog is back in the yard things are recovering.  I also got some bunny repellant.....but then I had to fence the garden areas because the repellant was attracting the dog and he was tromping through the garden!

 Tomatoes in the back, strawberries in the middle.  In the front are onions, lettuce, radishes and the cucumbers are finally making an appearance as well.

 Zucchini, tomatoes and basil on the side.  I think the cilantro finally sprouted too.  I had given up on that one!

Garden is in!

My garden has been planted.  Little dude  had fun helping out with his little shovel and wheel barrow.  We got a truck load of top soil delivered to add to the compost and peat moss we already had.

I decided since I have limited space to go with the square foot gardening method.  The front box has onions, cucumbers, radishes, kohlrabi, basil and cilantro.  The second box has 50 strawberry plants and behind that are 6 tomato plants.

Over here the front box as 4 tomatoes on the side, zucchini in the big square and basil and dill in the other 3 squares.

The 2nd box has 4 tomatoes, zucchini and 3 jalapeno plants.

The 3rd box is the largest and has 4 tomatoes, beans and peas.

On the right there are 2 little blueberry bushes that you can't really see in the picture.  On the left is carrots and more onions.

Spring time!

I love this time of year!  Lawn mowers are starting up all over the neighborhood and it's time to get impatient about planting!

I got my little blueberry bushes in the mail from Gurneys yesterday and they went in the ground today!

 My little garden boxes are almost ready. They just need a little more soil.

 the peonies are poking their little heads out.

 My daffodils (and tulips) are also making an appearance....along with a lot of weeds.
